During the 1970's, when I was a young man, I went to many concerts at Birmingham Town Hall, groups like ELP, Nazareth, Black Sabbath etc. Sadly it had become neglected, lacking any TLC from Birmingham City Council and, as with many public treasures, they waited until it was financially beyond redemption before going cap in hand to funding sources (European Regional Development Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund, as well as smidgen from the Council)to bring it back to glory. Now, after £35m and nine years it is ready to host great music again. On 22nd April HRH Charles and Camilla will officially re-open that which originally opened in 1834. Pity it could not have opened 1 day later, St George's Day, but then, Birmingham City Council are known not to prefer celebrations for the indigenous population.
